Facials & Skin Treatments
Where do I start with a facial?
If you are new to professional facials or unsure which treatment to choose, the best place to start is our Dermalogica Pro 60. This is our signature one-hour professional facial and the treatment we recommend to every new skin client. It begins with a thorough skin analysis so your therapist can fully understand your skin before a single product is applied. From there, the treatment is completely customised to you — your skin type, your concerns, and your goals. No guesswork, no one-size-fits-all approach. Just a professional, results-driven facial tailored entirely to your skin.
What is the Dermalogica Pro 60?
The Dermalogica Pro 60 is a full 60-minute professional facial using Dermalogica’s advanced clinical product range. It includes:
- Double cleanse to thoroughly prepare the skin
- Professional exfoliation tailored to your skin type
- Extractions where needed
- A targeted treatment masque
- Finishing moisturiser and SPFÂ
Because the full hour allows your therapist to work through every step properly, the Dermalogica Pro 60 delivers noticeably better results than a shorter express facial. It is the ideal starting point for any new skin client and an excellent regular maintenance treatment for existing clients.
What is the best facial for my skin?
The right facial is the one that addresses your specific skin concerns — whether that is dehydration, congestion, sensitivity, ageing, or pigmentation. This is why we always conduct a skin consultation before recommending a treatment. For new clients, we recommend start here facial From there, your therapist will advise on the most effective ongoing treatment plan for your skin.
How often should I have a facial?
For most clients, a facial every 4–6 weeks is ideal. This aligns with your skin’s natural renewal cycle of approximately 28–30 days. Regular facials help maintain skin clarity, hydration, and tone over time — the results are cumulative. Your therapist will advise a schedule suited to your skin at your appointment.
What is a Carbon Laser Facial and why would I have one?
A Carbon Laser Facial — also known as a Hollywood Peel or Carbon Peel — is a two-step treatment that uses a layer of liquid carbon applied to the skin, followed by a laser passed over the surface. The laser vaporises the carbon, taking with it dead skin cells, oil, and impurities from deep within the pores. The heat from the laser also stimulates collagen production in the deeper layers of the skin.
The result is an immediate improvement in skin clarity, texture, and radiance — with visibly reduced pores, a more even skin tone, and a healthy glow. It has virtually no downtime, making it a popular choice before events or as a regular skin maintenance treatment. It is particularly effective for oily and congested skin, enlarged pores, dull complexion, and early signs of ageing.
What is a skin peel?
A skin peel uses a carefully formulated acid solution — such as lactic, glycolic, or salicylic acid — applied to the skin to accelerate cell turnover and remove the outer layer of dead, dull skin. The result is fresher, smoother, brighter skin underneath. Peels range from superficial (no downtime, mild brightening) to medium-depth (more significant results, some peeling over a few days). At Beauty Worx, your therapist will select the appropriate peel strength for your skin type and concern. Peels are excellent for pigmentation, congestion, uneven texture, and dull skin.
What is microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive physical exfoliation treatment that uses a fine crystal or diamond-tip wand to gently buff away the outermost layer of dead skin cells. It improves skin texture, reduces the appearance of fine lines, unclogs pores, and leaves the skin looking brighter and more refined. It is suitable for most skin types, requires no downtime, and is a great maintenance treatment between more intensive skin therapies.
What is dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation treatment where a sterile surgical blade is used to gently remove the top layer of dead skin cells and fine facial hair (vellus hair, commonly known as peach fuzz) from the surface of the skin. The result is an instantly smoother, brighter complexion — and skincare products and makeup apply more evenly afterwards. Dermaplaning is suitable for most skin types, is completely painless, and has no downtime. Contrary to popular belief, the fine hair does not grow back thicker or darker — it returns exactly as it was.
What is LED Light Therapy?
LED (Light Emitting Diode) Light Therapy uses specific wavelengths of light to target different skin concerns at a cellular level — without heat, UV, or downtime. Different colours of light have different effects:
- Red light — stimulates collagen production, reduces fine lines, and promotes skin healing and repair
- Blue light — targets acne-causing bacteria, making it effective for breakout-prone and congested skin
- Near-infrared light — penetrates deeper into the skin to reduce inflammation and support cellular repair
LED is a gentle, relaxing treatment that can be used as a standalone session or added to other treatments to enhance results. It is suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin, and is completely painless.
What skincare should I use after a facial or skin treatment?
After a professional skin treatment, your skin is more receptive to active ingredients — but also more sensitive. In the 24–48 hours following your treatment, we recommend:
- A gentle, fragrance-free cleanser
- A hydrating, soothing moisturiser
- SPF 50+ every morning without exception
- Avoiding retinol, AHAs, BHAs, and other active exfoliants until your skin has settled
We use and recommend Dermalogica professional skincare at Beauty Worx. Your therapist can recommend a home care routine tailored to your skin at your appointment.
MicroneedlingÂ
Does microneedling really work?
Yes — when performed correctly by a trained therapist using professional equipment, microneedling (also known as Dermal Needling) is one of the most clinically supported skin treatments available. It stimulates your skin’s own collagen and elastin production through controlled micro-channels in the skin. The results — improved texture, reduced scarring, firmer skin, and a more even tone — are real and measurable. Results develop over 4–6 weeks and improve with a course of treatments. At Beauty Worx we use Dermalogica professional products in our Dermal Needling treatments for optimal results and skin recovery.
IPL Treatments
How many IPL treatments will I need?
The number of IPL treatments required depends on what you are treating. For hair reduction, most clients require 6–8 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart. For skin concerns such as pigmentation or redness, a course of 3–6 treatments is typically recommended. Your therapist will assess your skin and hair type at your first appointment and provide a personalised treatment plan.
